Fast Fashion to Fair Fashion: Conscience Closet

When conducting this study for Methods of Contextual Research at SCAD, my group focused in on the concept of transparency, particularly in the supply chain, and how that might affect the consumer's purchasing decisions, as well as the company's supply chain itself. The main goal of this project was to understand the best ways to communicate the supply cycle in a transparent and informative way that would promote a circular economy on both consumer and corporate ends. Ultmately, we wanted to know if transparency in fashion companies could promote a circular economy.

Our final iteration, taking from the affinitization of our research which was then converted into insights and interventions, took the form of a third-party agency to certify companies who provide transparency in the supply chain.

Research and Ideation Process

Ethnography, also known as contextual inquiry, is a research method part of the study of anthropology that studies culture from the point of view of a member of that culture or society. It examines behavior based on close observation and participation of subjects, as well a blending of a variety of primary and secondary research. By understanding the culture we are trying to influence, we can more seamlessly intergrate our solutions into the world around us.
